Scrapbook Retreat Challenge

At each Scrapbook Retreat, we have a small challenge, whereby each participant is given exactly the same items to use, a small set of rules and away they go. This time, they each got 30cm of purple ribbon, a silver dragonfly brad and 4 Making Memories Fabric Corners.

The rules on this occasion were that you had to have at least 1 part of visible ribbon, use at least 1 of the corners and the dragonfly. Other than that, it was pretty open. You could add any additional items, alter them in any way and create whatever you liked (layout, beyond the page, card, tag etc).

Our fifth and final board for the retreat (although many of us wanted to keep going). I think there may have been 1 or 2 layouts that didn't make it to the board in the final hour, but what an amazing lot of gorgeous layouts produced at October Scrapbook Retreat. Can't wait till April, which will be even bigger, so expecting to see the board filled 8+ times at least.

By Friday night, we were ploughing through the layouts so quickly, that they didn't seem to stay on the board long enough for anyone to scraplift, so we brought in a portable white board as well, so we could have 2 going at once. What an awesome idea that was - 30+ layouts on display at any given time. Mojo was flowing freely after this - yay! (thanks for the great idea Tanz)

Note Shannon's Advent Calendar on the bottom right hand corner. She was totally dreading doing this and parts of it are tedious I admit, but once she was on the home straight, she was away and the end result is just gorgeous! Well done Shannon.

At our Scrapbook Retreats, it is custom to display your layouts once completed. We stick them up on the white board until it is full, then we clear it off and start all over. It is such a good way to get ideas, see what others are doing, share new techniques and we just about always scraplift one or two of the layouts on the board, often with several people scraplifting the same layout. It really does provide inspiration, especially at 2am when your energy levels are a bit low. lol!

October Scrapbook Retreat Review

Due to family illness and other commitments, a few last minutes changes were made for this retreat, including who was and wasn't able to come, set up day and the postponing of the 'Recycle It' classes, which will now be held at the April Retreat. However, everything turned out just fine and once again we had a fabulous time surrounded by creative, like minded people. We shared good food, some outrageous laughter and played some fun games. All in all another very successful Scrapbook Retreat. We now head into the planning phase for April Retreat and we hope you will join us. Over the next few days we'll share some of the creative layouts that were produced at October Retreat, which you should feel free to scraplift.

October Scrapbook Retreat Classes

We are going with a 'Recycled' theme for October Scrapbook Retreat and our two fun, low cost classes both feature the recycling of everyday household items. Both classes are just $15 each and this includes all basic materials to complete the class (including the ability to choose your own patterned paper from our on site store). All that will be left to do at the end, is to add your own finishing embellishment touch at your leisure.

Bookings essential and are open to all - even if you can't make the Retreat itself, you are still welcome to come and take one or both of the classes. If you want to do both, why not stay for lunch in between - for just $10 you can indulge in hot chicken wraps with a variety of salad fillings, cheese, pickles and mayo.

Weekend Workshop

Usually, our weekend workshops run 10am - midnight, but with a cancellation at the camp we go to for our Scrapbook Retreats, we jumped at the opportunity to have an overnight weekend workshop and went 11am Saturday till 3pm Sunday.

I didn't personally work on 12x12 layouts, opting to get more pages done in the mini books for my nephew and few pages done in some of my other little books and beyond the page items, but most of the other ladies did and the inspiration board was looking fantastic.

Once it was full, it almost had me wishing I was doing layouts, as there were certainly some I'd have liked to Scraplift!

A lovely weekend with 7 crafty ladies. Thank you all for a wonderful workshop. Look forward to spending more scrapbooking time with you at Friday night crops and/or October Scrapbook Retreat.

Weekend Workshop/Overnight Crop

Our next weekend workshop/crop is being held as an overnight workshop, from 11am Saturday 3rd September, till 3pm Sunday 4th September. (overnight stay is optional).

This means you can come and craft all day/night, then stay on site and start again the next day, without having to pack up your gear in between. Being held at Camp Maynard in Albany, the same place we hold our Scrapbook Retreats, so it's a great way to come and see the venue and get a small taste of what our retreats are like. Usual games, prizes and loads of fun. We will have a small amount of supplies on site for purchase, including Bazzill, patterned papers, adhesives and some embellishments, but you should also feel free to bring whatever you already have to use.

Cost $45, which includes dinner Saturday night, overnight accommodation and breakfast on Sunday morning. Lunches will be by way of BYO plate for shared lunches on both days.

For those who do not wish to stay overnight, you are welcome to come just on the Saturday - 11am - midnight $30 including dinner.

All welcome, but bookings essential for catering and seating purposes. Email us for further info or to book in.

Scraplifting

As noted in previous posts about our July Scrapbook Weekend, we use an on-site whiteboard and display finished layouts. Often this leads to one layout in particular (sometimes more) being scraplifted by others. In this instance, it was the 100% Boy layout created by Tania, that a few of us liked and decided to scraplift. Here are the finished results - all the same basic layout, but different photos, different papers and different embellishments make them all look so individual.

Scrapbook Weekend Inspiration Board

At all our retreats and our small July Scrapbook Weekend, we use an onsite white board as our inspiration board. As you complete a page, you stick it up on the board for everyone to view. It provides quick inspiration to everyone and usually, one layout will stick out and everyone will scraplift it with their own version. It's an excellent way to share ideas and techniques and see how different the same basic layout can be when several different people copy it, using different photos, different papers and different embellishments.

It was funny to see how in the first lot, we all seemed to be sticking to pretty muted colours - Autumn tones!

Accordian fold cardstock four times, sketch and cut once to make to make a set of quotation marks.

Stamp your title onto the ribbon slider with black Staz-on. Slide it onto the ribbon and use glue dots to hold it in place on your page.

Dad's Hat - By Gypsy

I'm normally a 'judge it by eye' scrapbooker- not a 'measure and check make it exact' scrapbooker. I also like to lay out the page first and then of course I have to lift it all up and stick it back down again. I have a couple of tricks that I use to help me. The first is a Sewing and Knitting gauge which I picked up very cheap at a local emporium (Ike's: I'm going to miss you!). You can see it on the left in the picture. It's easy to adjust the little red thing and butt it up against the edge of my base cardstock to make sure that the top and bottom of whatever I am sticking down is the same distance from the edge.

The other thing that I do is add pencil marks in places where they won't be seen so that I can realign the pieces I am sticking down in the same place that I had laid them out. You can see that in the inset top right of the picture above.

Design Team Member's New Assistant

Our Design Team Member Gypsy, who received the June pack and has already produced one layout with out, currently has a brand new assistance - gorgeous baby Tama (who arrived a little earlier than planned). What a lovely distraction to have! And whilst she is well aware there is no pressure to supply anything further, she has advised that her items were all pre-planned prior to the beautiful arrival and so they will still be coming, so watch this space!

Packing For Craft Out West

Only 3 weeks till Craft Out West, so I'm slowly going through all my supplies for end of line items and other stock to see what needs to go into the 'Bargain Box'. I also have the regular stock to start packing, as well as some brand new stock (what is left of it that is), to bring along and share with current and new customers. Craft Out West is such an awesome weekend for crafty people, so if you're into craft and you haven't been before, I highly recommend it. If you've been before, you'll know it is bursting with creative people and an amazing display of craft items and supplies and some yummy home made goods, so don't miss it! This year it is at Te Pai Centre (Waitakere Indoor Netball), Henderson, corner of Lincoln Rd and Te Pai Place. Hope to see you there!

Crochet Flowers

These seem to be super popular for Scrapbooking and other craft items lately. I recently ordered in some large crochet flowers (complete with huge rhinestone brads), that are just gorgeous and are for sale on the website, but couldn't find anything smaller and more delicate, so I bought some small crochet hooks and some 3ply cotton yarn and learnt how to make them.

I started with YouTube and whilst it got me started, my first two attempts were hilarious. The first one looks nothing like a flower - in fact, it's square in shape. The second one had more of a flower shape, but some pretty strange petals. I persevered. The third one wasn't too bad for a beginner and the 4th one even had a second layer of petals. After that, I had my lovely friend (and design team member) Glenna show me how she makes hers (after she stopped laughing at my first two flowers). Although she uses wool and a larger hook, the principle is the same and so after a couple of fairly OK flowers, I got the hang of it. As you will see below, I'm well into the swing of it now and have made over 40 of them, hoping to have a good little stock of them to sell at Craft Out West in July.

Once I had been making those for a few days, it was time to try something else. First was the heart, but I haven't quite got the top middle of the heart right yet, so might have to practice a bit more on that.

Then came the rose - which is relatively easy. Just like making a large open flower, then rolling it up. Then onto leaves. I haven't quite got the shape right yet, so might have to look for some sort of pattern, but loving the possibilities and ability to experiment to create new things. No doubt one of my upcoming layouts will feature some crochet embellishments.

Weekend Crop Layout

During the weekend crop this past weekend, I took the opportunity (with a little encouragement from some of my Design Team members-lol), to get the next few months rounds of 'Design Team' supplies ready. Once that was done, I did a bit of photo sorting (and a touch of photo shuffling), before deciding it was really time to finish a layout I started a few years back. The photos were matted and adhered to plain cardstock. I have looked at it several times, with no mojo appearing for it's completion, so I finally decided to take it all apart and start again. Here is the end result.

Big Slide...or Little Boy?

It's my son Jayden on the large slide at the school just around the corner from us. He hadn't started school when this photo was taken and he is now 10, so the layout was long overdue. After completing it, my husband commented that we should really take him back up to that school and get another photo of him on the slide. So, watch this space for part 2!

I recently created a layout featuring my god-daughter Vienna. I used supplies from Abi's Craft and was quite pleased with the finished result - especially how their little brass stamping charms looked on the page, so I sent them a copy of it. They loved it so much, it was featured on their website. Other than my own blog, my work has never been displayed anywhere else - I don't submit work for publishing etc, so it was certainly something new for me. Here is the layout:

Scrapbook Retreat - Royal High Tea

Our last Scrapbook Retreat was held the same weekend as the royal Wedding, so I came up with the idea that we should have a 'Royal High Tea' for morning tea on the day of the wedding.

Wendy had agreed to make some mini cupcakes, so I downloaded a British flag and she turned them into flags on toothpicks, and used them to decorate the cupcakes, along with some yummy frosting and the appropriate red and blue sprinkles.

We also decided it was a good time to serve the super yummy looking cake Shannon had brought to camp to share.

I created little invitations on Bazzill Bling diamond Cardstock and hand delivered them, then we all went into the dining room and had ourselves a Royal High Tea - and it was GOOD!

Scrapbook Retreat Challenge Entries

Scrapbook Retreat Inspiration Board

At out Scrapbook retreats, we have an 'Inspiration Board'. It's basically a display of layouts completed at the retreat. As soon as anyone completes a layout, they pop it up on the board. When the board is full, it is emptied off and filled again. It provides inspiration to others whilst scrapping, whether it be just to have other completed layouts around as visuals cues, an element of someone else's page, a technique that someone has used, or the entire layout that someone else will then ask if they can scrap lift. Occasionally, this has lead to the start of a kind of 'Retreat Scraplift', whereby a whole lot of us do our own version of the layout.

Keep an eye on the blog over the next few days, as we post more photos from the retreat, including the completed Retreat (Camp) Challenges.

Scrapbook Retreat Challenge

Glenna's Tip:- Making the most of your supplies - Cut out the area of patterned paper behind where your photo/mat will go (slightly smaller than your photo). This provides additional pieces of the patterned paper to be used on the front as accents, or on another layout, without having to use a 2nd sheet of the same paper. Cost effective and great when you only have the one sheet of a certain paper.

Naturally Cute - Layout

I just loved the way Vienna was holding her hands in this shot. Just as if to say "I don't know". She was all wrapped up in a towel after our shower at camp and I couldn't resist getting a couple of shots of her.

The words Cute and Naturally were cut out on the Klic-N-Kut machine using white adhesive vinyl. The other words are all from alpha rub ons. The flourishes are just drawn on with a White Sakura glaze pen using a template. Quick and easy layout, but loving the end result.

Why I Love My DSLR - By Gypsy

A handy tip that I didn't learn until long after I started stamping is to place a piece of firm foam under your stamping surface. If you often find that your stamping comes out uneven and with ink missing then using the foam and firm pressure will solve your problem.

A trick I use when I have limited space (and want to make sure my title will fit) or want to ensure that my letters are straight is to make up the text on a ruler. Gently sticking down a small part of the bottom of the letter I can use the guidelines for alignment and also to ensure my letters are evenly spaced.

April Scrapbook Retreat (ScrapCamp)

Only 10 weeks till April Scrapbook Retreat and we have an awesome line up for those attending. As always, we will have our camp challenge and will once again have our 15 minute free simple project class that we introduced at October Scrapbook Retreat, plus we will have 2 product demonstrations. Firstly Michele from Memories Forever will be joining us to do a hands on demonstration on the Making Memories Slice Machine, then there will be a demonstration on the Teresa Collins Stampmaker, where you will get to see how easy it is to create your own beautiful clear stamps.

We also have 2 wonderful optional additional classes organised:

Class 1 - Exploding Box, taught by Tania Sampson (Design Team member)

Class 2 - Mini Album, taught by Glenna Taulilo-Makaea (Design Team member)

Both classes will be available for campers as well as people just wanting to attend for the class itself and participants can choose their own papers, cardstock etc to match their own theme.

Advent Calendar

I had been admiring the work done by Tania on her Advent Calendars and finally gave in and started one myself, for my 9 yr old son Jayden. I took the kit (that comes complete with the little boxes and even the chipboard number) and started putting it together.

First I glued all the boxes together and painted them (Vanilla Ice - a creamy off white)

Then came the main part, snap the pieces, snip the excess, sand, add glue and insert. Quite easy really. The painted this with Vanilla Ice as well.

Then a little colour for a more subtle, slightly distressed look - I used Suede Glimmer Mist, which added a gorgeous soft brown, with a hint of shimmer.

Decided to just cover the front of the boxes with paper. I used KaierCraft papers, mainly from the Christmas range "Tis The Season" (which I also used a sheet of for the main background picture), plus a few from the 'Cafe Culture' range for variety, which tied in nicely colour wise.

Inked the edges of the paper cut out for the box fronts.

Then got so carried away, forgot to take any more picture until it was practically finished. I added the background paper, adhered the paper on the front of the boxes, painted the number with a copper glitter paint, added some cute wee wooden reindeer and a KaiserCraft flourish tree (Thanks Tania). It still needs a bit more finishing (and a replacement tree as I had Tania's), but December is upon us and so it is in use and the owner does not seem to mind one little bit! Will try and remember to take more photos once completely finished (after Christmas).

My Own Favourite Camp Layout

As well as a gorgeous set of Christmas and birthday cards (thanks to the wonderful tutor Tania - who taught the class "Cards with a difference" at camp) and the new mini set of albums that I made during my own class, I managed to complete 4 layouts during camp. This is by far my favourite. A photo of my daughter Taryn with the family cat, taken in 2009. The format is scrap lifted (original scrapper unknown) and whilst I cursed my decision to hand stitch the page when I started, I was super happy with the end result once I had finished and went on to make a matching page of my son Jayden also holding our cat Tabitha. Simple and elegant. For those of you who know me well - yes it is half way between net curtain and drapes!!! Perhaps I have finally found a balance?

... was my parcel from Green Tara, full of lovely yummy paper flowers, Yay! Green Tara have so many yummy products now - flowers, ribbons and way too many colours to stock them all, but I will be getting in another shipment shortly, so if you have a special request for a certain colour/size flower, then let me know and I'll do my best to get them in for you. In the mean time, I'm off to bag some of these, ready for camp.

Now if only my KaiserCraft order had arrived! Hopefully it will be here early next week and my DH will bring it up to camp from me!

October ScrapCamp Challenge

The challenge for October ScrapCamp has been finalised. Each participant will be given: 3 nickel loopy brads, 1 10cm strip of silver rhinestones (20 rhinestones on a self adhesive strip), 1 15cm strip of self adhesive felt stars and a light blue plastic slide frame. Below is a photo of the items.

The challenge itself is to use the above items to create a layout of any size, which includes a title, a photo and at least one sentence of journaling. All finished challenge items will be judged by all campers via silent vote Saturday night, right after dinner. Can't wait to see what everyone comes up with.

Ceramics Show

Ceramics Society of New Zealand (CSNZ) held their Ceramic and Craft show last weekend. Caz Dezign entered 3 pieces. 1 was my own matt black and blue crystal and glass bowl, 1 was a sun plaque made by one of my child students Brooke and 1 was a copper glazed bowl by another child student Kyle.

The 2 child student pieces both won 1st prizes in their age and section, as well as Brooke winning 1st Overall for her age group. Mine was awarded a 2nd place in Professional Glazing/Crystals section. 100% placings - not bad!

Big October ScrapCamp

Yes it's that time of the year again. The time when Caz Dezign opens it's camp doors to All for our Big October ScrapCamp. And, whether you call it ScrapCamp, Scrapbook Camp, Scrap-Away, Scrapbook Retreat or any other name, it all boils down to like minded ladies getting away for a weekend of scrapbooking. We have loads of fun, good food, demonstrations, games, prizes, scrapbook challenges and a huge amount of laughter.

We are a pretty easy going group and many of our regular campers started their camp journey at a Big October ScrapCamp and just keep coming back for more. We have had people come from Tauranga, Wellington, Christchurch and even a couple return from Australia just to attend ScrapCamp, so why not come along and see what it's all about. Full camp is just $175, all inclusive 6pm Thurs - 3pm Sunday and that includes all meals which are cooked for you. Hot breakfasts of bacon, eggs & hashbrowns. Roast lamb on Saturday night, hot chicken wraps for lunches and more. Smaller packages also available. there are also optional additional classes if you want to try something new or complete a project while at camp.

July ScrapCamp

Another great ScrapCamp. July is our smallest camp of the year, usually with only 6 participants, so we can have plenty of room to have the fire going just about continuously. We ended up having just 5 campers, but we still had plenty of laughs and again made some great memories, some awesome layouts and some cool off the page projects.

Kids Ceramics Classes

I run an after school ceramics class for kids each term. Here are some of the latest items to come out of the class. The first picture is of their miniature vases. Painted in freestyle, using first a raised glaze design, then adding colour in and around the raised design. It's interesting to watch kids come up with their own ideas, then transfer those ideas to the ceramic piece.

This next photo is of all the bowls they made. We used glazes from Mayco's Elements range. The results are always fantastic and even using the same glaze, you can get different results depending on where it is in the kiln, how heavy your coat of glaze was etc. Can't wait to see the kids faces when they come next week and see these. They look so different before firing.
And this is my favourite bowl from the kids lot. It's made with Mayco's Copper Adventurine, with both Amber and Black Cascade dabbed around the top edge (which then flows down the side during firing). Just gorgeous. It almost has the look of a very fine sparkle or even glitter fired into the glaze. A truly unique colour.

Card Box

This weekend during a weekend workshop, instead of doing layouts, I turned to another craft item and using a KaiserCraft Recipe Box, made a box to keep all my handmade cards.

One of my goals is to try and make (and keep a stock of) a variety of cards from scraps when I finish a layout or off the page item, so this will be an ideal way to store them until needed. The dividers are still to be labelled with the type of cards each section will hold, but other than that, was quite a quick item to make and loads of fun.

As with most projects like this, you learn as you go and work out quicker/easier ways to do it next time around, but this was still started and finished all in the one day.

Kiwiana Charm Swap

One of my good friends (Queen T), set up a Kiwiana charm swap for a group of the regular ScrapCamp campers. My first charm was little Tiki. He is made from paper clay, then coated in green acrylic and dry brushed with a hint of pearlised/metallic green shimmer paint to give it a more authentic colour. Photo doesn't so the colour justice, but I was really happy with the end result.

My next challenge it to make the sky tower!!! What was I thinking?

Although we have only officially made one swap (was set up as 1 swap each camp for the year), Paula was way too organised and made all four of hers and brought them up to camp in April, so my chain is looking pretty good already! Loving Paula's Marmite jar and the black singlet is actually double sided and sewn. The jandals she individualised for each person, using colours of meaning. Mine are colours from my heritage (Caribbean). Can't wait to get another round and see what else people have made.

Such a cool idea. Thanks Tania for getting us into this.

Will keep you posted as I make and receive more charms.

Layouts from Camp

Some of the layouts I did at ScrapCamp, as well as the whiteboard display of layouts during camp. The first one (Baby in a Bucket) was my ScrapCamp challenge layout. Each camper was given a flower eyelet, leaf eyelet, clear ribbon slider and 3 plain eyelets. The task was to complete a layout or Beyond the Page Item, using the items and also including a photo and a tag. More photos to follow of the other entries.

2010 Goals

At camp clean in January, I followed the lead of my friend Tania and started to create a small format book to track the progress of my goals (New Year Resolutions) for 2010. I was tossing up between a few titles for the book and so hadn't gotten around to getting the front cover finished, but finally had a burst of inspiration and completed the front cover last night (well actually, somewhere around 2am this morning).

Inside the book is a list of my goals for the year, broken down into three categories: Home, Business and Personal.

Then there is a page for notes at the end of each month, followed by a blank page with a pocket, so I can tuck in any relevant items, photos etc.

It's simply bound with the 'Bind It All' spiral binding system (which I love!).

Can't wait to put in all the notes for January, as they are mainly all positive. I started the year with a hiss and a roar when it came to my goals. Long may it last!

One sorted Studio!

It has taken some time, loads of sweat and was certainly helped by the lack of access to my computer files, but the scrapbooking side of the studio is finished! - Yeah!!!

Here are some photos - cause I know some people wouldn't believe it if I just said my desk was clean and tidy-lol! Also, by the time they come around in person, it may not necessarily look like this anymore. Although the aim now is to keep it pretty sorted, I hope the clear work surfaces will help inspire me to be more creative this year, so I am hoping for many days of creative mess on the tables, followed by time taken to put everything away when finished. We'll see how that goes.

So, I got rid of about 3 shopping bags full or rubbish, 2 shopping bags full of paper/cardboard recycling, 2 shopping bags of odds and ends to my cousin's young daughter, who is a new scrapbooker (and loves any off-casts, what a bonus), 2 bags ready to go on trademe-mainly papers and a few odds and ends and a whole pile of stuff into the studio's Bargain Box.

I changed computer desks from the old black dining table to a grey trestle table, which is only about 2/3rds the width, but about a foot longer, giving me plenty of room for the laptop, printer and the Klic-N-Kut, so hopefully I will start using those more often.

A good start to the year, with the studio all ready to recommence Friday Night Crops.

Studio clean and purge

To start the new year off on the right foot, I thought it timely to do a huge clean and purge. Now except for my own desk, the studio didn't look too bad before I started, but I thought hey, if I'm going to do this, I'll do it fully. So, I have emptied out the cupboards (yes to all those who know me and my studio - that includes the end cupboard that one dare not open for fear of what might fall out onto them - lol) and draws as well. What a heavenly mess (heavenly cause the table is strewn with all sorts of scrapbooking goodies).

I am slowly putting things back into the cupboards, but taking the time to put all like things together and get rid of what I know I will never use. This afternoon I sat with my son Jayden for about an hour (actually he didn't last quite that long) and sorted out all the different bottles, jars and bags of beads. I now have one very sorted bead box (by colour) and a bag full of beads to go to a new home.

I also discovered lots of goodies purchased over the past several months that hadn't yet made it out of their original shopping bags! Goes to show I obviously didn't need them as much as I thought I did when I made the original purchase. Anyway, they have all been sorted and put away and let's just say, I shouldn't need to buy any supplies for.......oh....maybe the whole year!!!!!

I'll post some photos once I've finished, in the meantime, back to the sorting. Have a great weekend.

My Journal's come home!

Yeah! My circle journal has finally come home. My topic was Music. It has arrived home so full of yummy stuff, that I will have to replace the book rings with larger ones. Pages and pages full of gorgeous creations by some very talented people from the group. As I go through it over the next few days, I'll take photos of the inner pages and share them with you.

Thanks to everyone in the group - I absolutely love it! Can't wait to start on a new journal for 2010. Any takers?

Circle Journal Layouts

Life has been so hectic lately that I feel like I haven't really done anything creative lately. I can however (now that the circle journal circle is complete), share some of the layouts that I did in other people's journals over the past 7-8 months. I can't wait to get mine back and see what everyone has done.

The first two photos are layouts from the journal on Favourite Authors/T.V shows.

Here is a completed set of the gorgeous KaiserCraft mini bookshelf and albums, decorated by Miss Wendy. It is decorated in papers from KaiserCraft's Spirograph range. Absolutely beautiful Wendy, thanks for sharing it with us.

How Many Of You?

I'll never forget the look on Charlie's face when he came up to the camp once, while I was there at ScrapCamp, and looking around the room at the boxes, totes, drawers, shelves, hanging ribbon and the store set up, said in an amazed voice "How Many Of You? He was astounded by the fact that just 5 of us that particular camp had brought so much stuff. So I decided to document this last camp where there were 12 in total (although not all there for all of the time). Here are two pictures taken from opposite sides of the room, showing the Scrap Hall layout for the weekend. Some of the campers came 3 to a car and so didn't actually have too much stuff each. Others however (like myself) made up for it by taking a whole car load each (and another for the shop goods!).

It's hard to know what you can leave behind you know!!!

Awesome ScrapCamp

We just had a truly awesome ScrapCamp. It was our 'Big October Camp' and I can say now, that I did have in the back of my mind the big camp from a few years back, where some of the attendees didn't get along so well, but I needn't have worried this time. Even though we had more new people (that we'd never met), than we did regular campers, everyone got on really well and after day one, it was almost like we had scrapped together for ages.

There was such a diverse group of new ladies, but they were all lovely and I really enjoyed their company and the great laughs we all had together. Boy could some of them tell some funny stories! I'm looking forward to more ScrapCamps with them in the future.

During camp, one lady (Judy) produced a set of wedge templates and showed us the layouts she had created. Soon the wedges started making their way around the room, with many of the campers doing a layout using the wedges, and some of us even cutting ourselves wedge templates from the originals. Above is the photo of the display board showing all the full circle layouts that were made at camp using the templates. There were also many others created, with 1/2 circles, S shapes and more, but I ran out of time to photograph them all, so will try and get photos from the owners at a later stage.

It's amazing how even the most seasoned scrapbooker can still always learn something new from another person and how much combined creative knowledge there is when you put 12 scrapbookers in 1 room.

Now it's the longest wait till the next ScrapCamp (Oct - April). During the year, they are only around 12 weeks apart, but a whole 6 months in between October and April Camps. Maybe I need to introduce a low key New Year's Scrap weekend??? Ooh, don't let the husband hear that!

Lizards, lizards everywhere

Well, not really, but when I emptied the kiln of the lizards from my kids after school ceramic class, I placed them on the table and they looked so gorgeous, I just had to take a photo. I can't wait to see the faces on the kids this afternoon when they lay eyes on their beautiful lizards. When they are painted ready to go into the kiln, they look dull and lifeless, with very muted colours, but once fired in the kiln, the colours brighten, the glazes melt and produce these lovely gloss finishes. Makes me want to do a whole batch myself and place them in the garden!

Enjoying Circle Journals

I have really been enjoying the current circle journal group I am in. The topics are so varied, as are the different styles of scrapbooking. With so much else going on at the moment, including the work with the Parent Support Group at school, Plunket tiles/mugs, kids ceramic classes and the fundraising work for the scout camp, it has been hard to get any real scrapping done, let alone keep up with the housework. However with a posting deadline on the journals, it forces me to take some time out and do something creative.

One of the journals I recently completed asks you to print a photo of yourself onto the supplied sheet of transparency and insert it between your pages. It was a really neat idea. I'm so glad we did that fun photo shoot at April camp, but realise the same photo has been used for over 6 months now, so might have to get Glenna onto another photo shoot at October camp.

Once the circle is complete and everyone has received their journals back, I will post the photos of the pages I completed.
